Hayes-Williams Sets Single Game Playoff Reception Record

Hayes-Williams Sets Single Game Playoff Reception Record

Everett Hanmer

St. Clair Saints wide receiver Jared Hayes-Williams is the Canadian Junior Football League’s all-time single game playoff reception leader with 14. Hayes-Williams, a 5th year graduating player, set the record during the October 29th CJFL National Semifinal game in Windsor where his Saints lost to the eventual Canadian Bowl Champion Okanagan Sun 42-24.

Hayes-Williams broke the 28 year-old record of 13 receptions which was set by Stephen Canestrari of the Laval Scorpions in the Quebec Major Junior Football League back in 1994. Hayes-Williams’ 14 receptions totalled for 198 yards and 1 touchdown. The 198 yards put Hayes-Williams into a tie for the 9th most reception yards in a playoff game.

The record bookends a season filled with accolades for the standout wide receiver. Hayes-Williams was named a First Team CJFL All Canadian. He tied for OFC’s Top Offensive Player honour with running back Taz Bell of the London Beefeaters.

He was the OFC’s Top Receiver All-Star and was named the offensive player of the week in week 3 of the regular season. Hayes-Williams’ regular season numbers were also impressive. He had 33 receptions for an OFC best 617 yards and 6 touchdowns. The 6 touchdowns tied Hayes-Williams for first in the conference during the regular season with Hamilton Hurricanes CJFL Second Team All Canadian receiver Anthony Grigg.

Hayes-Williams is also able to end his impressive OFC career as a champion, as he and his Saints raised the Ted Morris Memorial Trophy as OFC Champions.
