Football Canada Approves the Use of Guardian Caps

Football Canada Approves the Use of Guardian Caps

Football Canada

September 6, 2024
Hamilton, ON – Guardian Caps (and other soft-shell protective covers on helmets) have risen in popularity as of late with a goal of adding some additional safety to player who choose to wear them. Football Canada recognizes the importance of ensuring their safe and effective use in the sport.
As more teams and organizations have expressed exploring the various
manufactured products, we’ve spoken with various partners and stakeholders
to ensure implementation is done correctly.
While we further investigate the impact of wearing these caps, Football
Canada has approved the use of Guardian Caps / manufactured protective
helmet covers during practices/games, effective immediately should a
player wish to purchase one and use it. We will monitor this situation over
the remaining months of the tackle season and this item will be advanced to
the Rules Committee this winter for future considerations.
Player Safety remains our highest priority, and we will continue to work
diligently to ensure all protective equipment options are considered and meet
the highest standards to ensure athlete safety.
