Bill Prest Community Service Award - Luis Veliz

Luis Veliz has been the most dedicated volunteer among the Hamilton Hurricanes players in 2023. Despite the team's busy off-season with nearly 50 community events amounting to around 500 hours, Luis stood out. The Hurricanes have been deeply involved in the Hamilton community, supporting various groups that offer significant aid to those in need. Their partnerships include noteworthy organizations such as Food4Kids Hamilton, Hamilton Out of the Cold, and the Around the Bay Race in support of St. Joe's Healthcare, among others.

Luis alone dedicated almost 44 hours to these noble causes. He has been deeply involved with Hamilton Out of the Cold, an organization committed to providing weekly food and clothing to the homeless. Among his responsibilities, Luis has transported large containers of hot soup, set up BBQs, prepared food, sorted clothing, and organized books for fundraising auctions. Additionally, at Food4Kids, Luis aids in assembling the 1,400 meals provided weekly to Hamilton's school students.

Whenever there's an opportunity to help, Luis is invariably among the first to volunteer. His dedication remains unwavering as he looks forward to more service opportunities in the upcoming year, even as he prepares to graduate from the Hurricanes program. Luis epitomizes the spirit of selflessness, setting an admirable example for today's youth.
